It's always a pleasure to write for Word Tribe's prompts. This week's prompt was " if s/he knew then whats/he knew now". This is my take on the prompt. Do let me know what you think of it in the comments section below.
He read the lyrics again,
"She says we've got to hold on to what we've got
'Cause it doesn't make a difference
If we make it or not
We've got each other and that's a lot
For love - we'll give it a shot "
"She says we've got to hold on to what we've got
'Cause it doesn't make a difference
If we make it or not
We've got each other and that's a lot
For love - we'll give it a shot "
He re-read the second and third line. And again. This time singing it with the tune, Bon Jovi style. He played the song on his laptop. Pressed his ears listening hard. Then he got up and searched rampantly for his skull candy headphones in his messed up cupboard. Ah, there! He inserted the headphones in and heard Bon Jovi sing the lines from Livin' On A Prayer, again.
Right! His friends were actually right. How could he have mistaken the lyrics?
He had always presumed the wrong lyrics, and today in front of half his school he sung his presumed lyrics-
" 'Cause it doesn't make a difference, If we're naked or not",
instead of
" 'Cause it doesn't make a difference, If we make it or not".
How the crowd had giggled away! How his friends laughed at him when he got down the stage. He decided never to volunteer for singing, ever again! He could only wish he knew then what he knew now!
Happy writting :)
Lovely take. But are you sure there are only 100 words?
ReplyDeleteAs Corinne ma'am has mentioned below, yes I didn't include the lyrics in the count. I'm only hoping that's allowed :P
DeleteThank you for stopping by Dr. Gauri:)
DeleteHa ha...Awkward! :)
ReplyDeleteIn response to Gauri's question, I'm guessing you didn't count the words in the lyrics!

Delete:D That's cool! There's a lot I know now, I didn't know then re music and lyrics! Funny how we go by what we phonetically hear!
ReplyDeleteI know! But we all have committed mistakes in recognising lyrics. I find it funny at times!
DeleteWelcome to my blog :)

DeleteOh! Soumyaa! It's awkward and what a goof up. I feel sad for the guy and it's an amazing 100 words-er that blew the heart and mind.
