Five Sentence Fiction- Scorching

This post is linked to- Five Sentence Fiction by Lillie McFerrin

When I was young, they asked me to write about characters that feel real, introduce conflict, serve a point, be honest to your work and of course, take risks. Mindful of these qualities, I finally set out to write this book, which you generously tagged "a book of masturbation".

I made Arnold so real that most 14 year boys could see them in him and you put a ban on the book in schools across NY.

Energized with #MaxFreshMove

I am blogging for #MaxFreshMove activity at BlogAdda.com. Are you?

So I'm gonna talk about how some exuberating music and enthusiastic grooving made a sad and lifeless situation nothing less than a joy to live!

I work with an event management team. We became excessively excited when we heard from two amazing artists, Anushka Manchanda and Allu Arjun. Who doesn't know these two?

Five Sentence Fiction: Memories

This post is linked to : Lillie McFerrin Writes- Five Sentence Fiction- Memories

I paced forward with all my strength and ran as fast as I could. But I couldn't have possibly saved my ass, the giant snowball slid down the slope at thrice my speed, engulfing all smaller objects along it's way- including me.

Celebrating International Day of Happiness

As Mahatma Gandhi once said,
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.

How many of us are truly happy? Men, for billions of years now, have searched for happiness in everything around him. In his deed, in his words, in other’s deeds, in other’s words, in his surroundings, in whatever you can think of now, you search for happiness. They say the most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it's all that matters. Instead of looking for happiness in the bigger things of life, why don’t we start with the little things in life that make us happy? After all, the ultimate aim is to lead a happy life, always!

We are together in this journey

My college was in Delhi and I was from Shimla. The distance between my home in Shimla and my hostel in Delhi was something around 400Kms, an 8 hour drive. I usually went back to Shimla once a month atleast to meet my mother, who lived there alone.

Hostel was mostly nice except my roommate. I found him very annoying and irritating. He was one filthy human being. Never kept his area of the room clean, didn't wash his clothes for weeks, there were his socks, his shirts, his shoes, his video games and his books all scattered across the room and on his bed but he hardly was bothered. I couldn't take this dirtiness and I often complained to him about it, all in vain.

Starting a new life

She had lived in Jambusar all her life. She was born there, she grew up there, she got married there, she raised her children there. As far as her mind could reach back in time to reveal memories, all were connected with Jambusar. She remembered how in her childhood she played with her friends and siblings around the biggest banyan tree then. She remembered hiding around clock towers, walking past Chotu ka Dhaba on her way to school and crossing railway lines to reach the market. She remembered celebrating Diwali and Holi with the people in Jambusar. As she grew up, the city grew with her. Chotu ka Dhaba was now an A.C. Restaurant and access to the market was made much more easier through fly over constructions. She got married in the well-known Devi ka mandir in Jambusar where devotees from across the country came to pray. Her children studied in the same school as hers, which was now bigger and better equipped.

My Look Up Story

This post has been written as a part of the happy hours on indiblogger.
Click here for details.

I wasn't born like most of you reading this post. I wasn't born a child whose parents would be blessed. I wasn't born a child who could create an impact on his world through great speeches, however great my thoughts were. I wasn't a person people would want to listen to. When I started speaking, yes I turned heads, but they only laughed at me. I had a lisp. The sentence you'd take 10 seconds to speak, I apparently took 2minutes to say. And by the end of the sentence, People would actually forget the first part of the sentence! It was disheartening to look at their faces while I spoke.

For, the House

Writing for Friday Fictioneers again, hosted by Rochelle here

PHOTO PROMPT -Copyright - Jan Wayne Fields

The smell of antiquity filled my nostrils as I entered my new residence.
"You know the history," my broker had exclaimed, "Everybody who has lived here has turned out to be a legendary writer! Daniel Defoe, Dickens, Christie and most recently, Rowling."

I could be next.
"Yes, you could be!" He read my thoughts. "Sign up for a bright future, now." I bought his house and his tales.

As I now sit at the same exquisite table and write my first piece, I can already feel words coming naturally to me. You might just see my name in this year's bestsellers!

The butterfly effect

At long last she found that butterfly, reveling its reunion with the garden flowers. Butterflies show semblance to freedom, she had heard. Envious, she carefully grabbed and bottled it, hindering its bond.

"Siya, come on get back to studies", her mom called. Ah, reunions!

The Map

Writing for the Five Sentence Fiction prompt- MAPS

I thought I knew what 'complete' felt like when he found the map to me, making me smile and laugh and cry and grow under the bubble that covered us.

Now thousand miles apart, spaces have grown in our togetherness.
But mourn not for us, for we found happiness in the drops of the sea between the shores of our souls.

Last night, he visited, finally holding the map to my body. I think I now know what 'complete' feels like.

My Black List

I believe the color black is a pliant color. It can stand for power as well as fear, for mystery as well as strength, for elegance and at the same time for aggression.

Among all the emotions the color BLACK can bring about, I believe Black is Brilliant. Here is a list of 5 Black items that I wish for, in that order-

1A BLACK AIRPLAY SPEAKER-  Because Black is the silence that music creates.

Paragons of virtue- Story of a Mardani

This is the story of a woman of substance. A woman, who rose to defend her identity in the male dominant society that we live in. A woman who had found love in a man, and then chose to kill it ; because there was another love she had to protect. A woman I call MARDANI.

She is a Christian. She loved a Muslim. Religious differences could not keep them apart. In the society that we Indians live in today, marrying your daughters off in another religion is still not readily accepted, she was aware. But she had found love and she wasn't letting go.

That kind of love

Hola everybody! I missed two weeks of friday fictioneers, and missed it I did. Anyhow, I'm back for this week's photo prompt and hopefully here to stay.

This week's beautiful photo is by Kelly Sands, only adding another photo to my collection of sky-photos from around the world! Thank you Kelly, as to you too Rochelle. And a special Thank-you to Kent!

I felt the texture of the cotton sheets beneath me, which I had clutched on to tightly. While excruciating pain passed from under my delicate skin, I felt an aching satisfaction. Words could not describe how elated I felt in his presence.

Now the silence inside the room pierced through me. The turmoil outside reflected the uproar of emotions in me.

"It was a mistake. I'm sorry" he said.

Still naked, I gazed into the vastness outside my window and felt myself fading away. He had made a mistake, I had found love.

Long have lived Atticus' words

If you've read To Kill a Mocking Bird, you'll understand the following better. If you haven't, Here's the link- read chapter 23. And get your copy ASAP!
________________________________________________

Tom was now seventy miles away from his family. In Alabama, there was never a black-innocent man. Deluged myself, I inundated upon Atticus.

Something came between the reasonable men and reason.

It was all adding up and we’re still paying the bills.

Ayesha's Birthday Eve

Ayesha was going to complete her 11 years of living, that summer. After much discourse, her mother had decided to take her to Darjeeling during her vacations. She was thrilled. The fact that she could celebrate her birthday in a different corner of the world every year was exciting, though secretly she still wished she would have been born during a working month to be able to celebrate with her friends and classmates. She always envied the other girls, they got to wear pretty dresses to school, they were the center of attraction the entire day and the others were all obligingly sweet to them- only in hope for that one extra KitKat. It was the new trend in her school. The birthday baby got 5 extra chocolates to school, which she would give to her 5 special friends in the break time, after the chocolate-distribution-ceremony held in the class. The rule was, if you have been given an extra chocolate by someone, you are well supposed to be giving your special chocolate back to her on your birthday. And well, everybody knew Ayesha's birthday was during summer vacations. The result was that she never really was treated with someone's special chocolate.

My Mislaid Mermaid #168

I walked them through my mermaid reveries,
Withstanding the tone of their infinite vagaries

Right!
Worthlessly they snapped
Whatever you say
The words were capped,
Horsepucky!
Cried girls from Kentucky,
Some silent hmm-s and reliefs
On my unstable Utopian beliefs

Well, in case you’re ready with your crusade,
They've already stolen my mermaid.

____________________________________________________________

The Ultimate Question-
Are you on your way to steal my mermaid?

Dazzled #FSF

This week's Five sentence Fiction is based on the prompt- DAZZLES

Wearing a skin-clutching blue dress, she took extra care to justify the occasion.
Sweeping eyelashes over her midnight blue eyes, pink lips, flawless defined curves, edged heels giving her elegance, teaser to the rest.
While others could not have enough of a glance in her direction, she stood in the doorway, hair swaying by the wind, looking passionately as I arrived.
Hands on her hips and arching eyebrows she gave me a sheepish smile, ready to receive plaudits.

Did she not know that she could dazzle me by her simplicity alone?

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie posts one word for inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.

What's your sign?- It's Euphoric

What's your Sign?

Shuddering hands, blood red eyes, insatiable desire- a bottomless pit.
He looked around, his eyes landing on her.
A different wave this time- wild, hypnotic and jittery.
420 piff, with me?
It was more than a choice of only the inner-city hipsters.

Ps- For those having a little difficulty in understanding 420, here's a wiki link. You're Welcome :)

The Liebster Award

A newbie in your world- the blogosphere, I have only learnt to say a few words, I need constant care-taking and I'm still crawling. This is my first taste of chocolate and it's soo good I tell you! Who doesn't like chocolates anyway? My first chocolate is the Liebster and Crimson Curls brought it to me. She's an aspiring architect who has an HD quality imagination power, in her own words. As she says, she is obsessed with her own dimples. No, she's not showing them to us. She's also a newbie and was as excited about her chocolate as I am for mine. Thank you for sharing this feeling with me, Crimson Curls! I think I'm going to scream and shout and cry for more of these.

Okay, so here's the Liebster Award (chocolate for me) Official Rules:

If you have been nominated for The Liebster Award and you choose to accept it, write a blog post about the Liebster award in which you:

1. Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.

2. Display the award on your blog — by including it in your post and/or displaying it using a “widget” or a “gadget”. (Note that the best way to do this is to save the image to your own computer and then upload it to your blog post.)

3. Answer 11 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.

4. Provide 11 random facts about yourself.

5. Nominate 5 – 11 blogs that you feel deserve the award, who have a less than 1000 followers. (Note that you can always ask the blog owner this since not all blogs display a widget that lets the readers know this information!)

6. Create a new list of questions for the blogger to answer.

7. List these rules in your post (You can copy and paste from here.) Once you have written and published it, you then have to:

8. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it (they might not have ever heard of it!

Alright then, here's my acceptation deed:

My Answers to Crimson Curls' Questions

  1. Whats the one thing that can make you happy at any situation?
    Ans-
Fooood! Bring me a well prepared dish, any cuisine, anywhere anytime and watch me smile ear to ear. I love food. Whatever my mood- sad, angry, excited, pityful, troubled, sleepy, tired, depressed, cold, bored or already happy, food can make me happy/happier substituting just any or all of the emotions.

  2. Name the person who inspires you the most.
    Ans-
Has to be my mom. She's a single mother, working as the Headmistress in a reputed school. I am amused at everything about her, her poise, her attitude, her IQ, her love for her children, her grace, her honesty and dedication. She's my inspiration, like every mother is to her daughter.

  3. If you could be someone else (except your own self), whom would you choose to be?
    Ans-
There are many, but all fictional. That's OK, right? If I were a male, I would choose Atticus Finch from the book 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' or Harvey Specter from the T.V series 'Suits'. But because I'm not, I'll choose either Jane Eyre, Nancy Drew or Monica Geller (Oh don't judge!).

  4. Your favorite color is? Ans- Orange

  5. Your hobbies include?
    Ans-
Included in my hobbies would most definitely be reading, writing, playing basket ball, Instagramming, watching T.V series, clicking photographs, eating and TRAVELLING- to name a few.

  6. How you feel just after finishing one blog article?
    Ans-
I feel a step closer to where I want to be. And also, phew!

  7. Whats your take on 'Love & Life" ?
    Ans-
Love brings life to Life. Love for your parents, love for your friends, love for the under-privileged, love for all creatures big or small, love for yourself, love for books, love for what you do. The two are inseparable.

  8. You forgive people easily or one has to plead for long time?
    Ans-
Oh I do not even remember what wrong did people do to me, to be able to forgive them for that! I do not remember asking anybody ever, to be sorry. Pleading for forgiveness is no where near. I don't expect (yes that's humanely possible, ask me), so they don't disappoint me, I'm not hurt and hence they needn't be sorry!

  9. What would you choose: 'sweet','salty', 'bitter' or 'sour' ?
    Ans-
Bitter. More because I cannot have any of the others in excess. Bitter, I can handle that.

  10. If one thing you could change about yourself, what would that be?Ans- I'd be more result-oriented rather than being lost half-way through. I have an unstable mind, and I ask for some stability now.
  11. Do you like sarcasm?
    Ans-
Love it! Until I'm following, obviously.

  10. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?

Thank you once again Crimson Curls! Congratulations to the nominees.
